COVINGTON, Ind. — Services were held last week at Houston, Tex., for Major James M. Hance, 46, former resident of Bloomingdale and Montezuma. He died July 8, 1969 at the Veterans Hospital in Houston and had been ill nine months. He was born in Champaign, Ill., April 16, 1923, the son of James M. Hance Sr. and Hazel Cannedy Hance. He married Jacqueline Harbin May 14, 1946 at Urbana, Ill. Major Hance received a bachelor of arts degree in social sciences at the University of Illinois and his master's degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tex. Major Hance taught in Houston schools and was a counselor at James Madison High, Houston the past four years. He had served in Korea and World War II and was area adviser with the Fourth Air Force regent. He was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Club, sponsor Rotary International intereact service, treasurer PTA, Houston Council of Education, Houston branch AP and GA, life member Delta Sigma Phi, University of Illinois Alumni Association, Southern Methodist University, interscholastic league coordinator, Texas Personnel and Guidance Association and N.A.T.C. Ireospace Educational Association. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Stephen of Houston and Jimmy at home; a daughter, Patricia at home; a sister, Mrs. Mary H. Starkey of Covington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister and brother. Burial was in the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Houston with Dr. Ralph H. Langley officiating.  --typed by Walt W
